Bad Breath

Having bad breath can be embarrassing.  Although everyone experiences bad breath, some people experience it constantly.  This is a condition known as halitosis.  While the most common way to get rid of bad breath is to brush your teeth and tongue regularly, this solution may not work for everyone.  Dr. Wintermantel and our team can help you eliminate your halitosis to enjoy fresher breath and improved oral health.

Bad breath can be caused by a number of different factors, including food, tobacco products, dry mouth, infections, medication, and poor oral hygiene.  If your bad breath remains even after brushing, flossing, and rinsing, it is possible that you have halitosis.

When you visit our practice, we will work with you to identify the cause of your halitosis, and provide an appropriate treatment.  Here are some ideas to help you deal with your halitosis:

  • Changing certain aspects of your diet can help with bad breath. For example, lowering your dairy intake.
  • Using breath mints, gum, or mouthwash can provide temporary relief. It will now, however, treat the source of your bad breath.

During your appointment, Dr. Wintermantel will ask you about your daily habits to determine if food or medication are causing the problem.  He will also perform a thorough oral examination to check of infections or decay that may be causing the problem.  He will then work with you to provide treatments and recommend changes in your lifestyle to improve your breath and your oral health.
